Lesson One

SIN

MEMORY VERSE: The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 3:1-19
INTRODUCTION: Today, many people call sin by various names. Some call it mistake, some call it failure, and some call it human weakness. Whatever name you may decide to give to sin, every Christian must know that sin is extremely bad. Sin means disobeying God, and anyone who disobeys the Almighty God is in great danger.

LESSON OUTLINES
1a.    HOW DID SIN START?
  b.    CERTAIN THINGS CALLED SIN
2a.    WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF SIN?
  b.    CAN SIN BE HIDDEN?
3.      HOW CAN I BE FREE FROM SIN?

1a. HOW DID SIN START?
Actually, Sin started with Satan (Isa. 14:12-14). Then sin entered the world through Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve sinned because they listened to the devil and disobeyed God. They doubted God’s love and His Word, looked at what God had forbidden and ate thereof. There is a great lesson for us in this: if you do not want to sin, then do not listen to the devil and whatever God forbids must remain forbidden unto you.

b.   CERTAIN THINGS CALLED SIN.
The Bible contains a long list of things called sin. You can discover some of them for yourself by reading 1 Cor.6:9-10 (5 sins); Rom. 1:29-31 (19 sins); 1 Tim. 1:9-11 (6 Sins); Col. 3:5-8 (7 sins); Gal. 5:19-21 (9 sins); Mark 7:20-23 (3 sins). Are you free from all these sins?

2a. WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF SIN?
There are many results of Sin. We shall list only three.
(i) Death. (Rom. 6:23). Anyone who sins will die not only physically, but spiritually also. That is,     not only will he die physically, he will forever be separated from God.
(ii) Punishment. (Mt. 25:46). Not only will a sinner be separated from God, he will be tormented for      ever and ever.
(iii) Hell. (Mt. 25:41), Hell, the place where sinners will spend eternity, is a burning pit people who      go there are for ever thirsty and suffer the type of pain that one gets if one touches fire! It is a      terrible and fearful place.

b.   CAN SIN BE HIDDEN?
Can you hide your sins from God? No. It is not possible. (Num. 32:23). Not only will your sin be discovered, you will be discovered also. Remember the cases of Adam, Cain, Achan, Ananias and Sapphira, Judas Iscariot and many others and fear God. (prov.28:13). Forsake your sins today.

3.   HOW CAN I BE FREE FROM SIN?
Can I free myself from sin? (Jere. 2:22). Whatever my effort, I cannot personally free myself from sin. But thank God for Jesus Christ. (Eph. 1:7). It is the powerful Blood of Jesus Christ that cleanses from all sins. (1Jn. 1:7). Do you wish to be free from your burden of sin? Then wash in the Blood of Jesus.
